CM Nitish Kumar Conducts Comprehensive Review of PMCH Redevelopment Project

Patna Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing redevelopment and construction work at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Wednesday. During his visit, the CM thoroughly reviewed the facilities available in the newly constructed Phase-1 building, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strict timelines while ensuring uncompromised quality and safety standards throughout the project.

Focus on Modern Medical Infrastructure and Patient Care

During his inspection tour, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar specifically directed officials to accelerate construction activities to ensure completion within the stipulated deadlines. He stressed that while expediting work, maintaining high-quality standards and rigorous safety protocols must remain paramount. The CM emphasized that modern medical facilities should be complemented by adequate accommodation arrangements for doctors and medical staff, ensuring that patients face minimal inconvenience while receiving advanced healthcare services and timely treatment.

Detailed Facility Inspection Across Departments

The Chief Minister began his inspection at the radiology department located on the first floor of the newly constructed building, where he assessed health facilities and ongoing development works. Officials briefed him about the department's capabilities, confirming that necessary facilities were operational and that state-of-the-art CT scan and MRI machines were fully available for patient use.

Moving to upper floors, CM Kumar reviewed facilities in the paediatric department, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) ward, nurse stations, cleanliness arrangements, and maternal and child health wards. His inspection covered various aspects of hospital operations, from medical equipment availability to patient care infrastructure.

Comprehensive Redevelopment Review and Future Directions

Beyond the Phase-1 building, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing redevelopment and construction work across the entire hospital complex. He sought detailed updates from PMCH officials regarding progress status and current challenges. Kumar specifically instructed that accommodation construction for students, teachers, doctors, and nursing staff associated with PMCH should be completed with enhanced quality and accelerated pace.

As the hospital expands its capacity, the CM emphasized that all arrangements for advanced medical services must be ensured. He also reviewed park and beautification work being developed along the JP Ganga Path, highlighting the importance of creating a healing environment for patients and visitors.

Transforming PMCH into a World-Class Healthcare Facility

The PMCH redevelopment project aims to transform the institution into a world-class hospital with a total capacity of 5,462 beds. The completed first phase of work has already added 1,100 beds across two towers, marking significant progress toward this ambitious goal. The comprehensive redevelopment includes modern medical infrastructure, advanced equipment, and improved facilities designed to enhance healthcare delivery across Bihar.

Senior officials present during the inspection included Principal Secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Health Department Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, Secretaries to the CM Kumar Ravi and Chandrashekhar Singh, Health Department Special Secretary Himanshu Sharma, District Magistrate Thiyagrajan SM, PMCH Superintendent Dr. Rajeev Kumar Singh, along with other senior officials and medical professionals.
