Nine Wild Bees Extracted from Elderly Man's Nose Following Severe Bee Attack in Kerala
In a shocking incident in Aarakkuzha near Muvattupuzha, Kerala, an 80-year-old man had as many as nine wild bees removed from his nose after being stung on Monday. The elderly individual, identified as Kunjan, was rushed to Muvattupuzha General Hospital and later transferred to Kottayam Government Medical College due to the seriousness of his condition following the attack.
Multiple Victims Stung in Widespread Bee Assault
According to local panchayat representatives, more than 10 people were stung by bees on Sunday morning, with all receiving treatment at Muvattupuzha General Hospital. The incident highlights a broader public health concern in the area.
Kunjan was returning home after attending prayers at Meenkuzha St Joseph's Church around 10 a.m. when he was suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees. It is suspected that an eagle disturbed a beehive located on top of a tree, triggering the aggressive bee response that affected numerous passers-by.
Heroic Rescue Efforts Amidst the Chaos
Upon hearing Kunjan's cries for help, a local resident named Jose bravely attempted to assist by covering him with a sack. However, by that time, Kunjan had already collapsed from the stings. Tragically, Jose was also attacked by the bees during the rescue attempt.
The fire force team was called to the scene and transported Kunjan to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Ward member Shaji Mani reported that Kunjan is currently under observation for 48 hours to monitor his recovery and ensure no further complications arise from the traumatic event.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by wildlife encounters in residential areas and underscores the importance of prompt emergency response in such critical situations.
