Nagpur Woman Succumbs to Suspected Food Poisoning
A 22-year-old woman from Madhya Pradesh has died at AIIMS-Nagpur. She consumed sweets from an unclaimed bag found outside a government office. This tragic incident marks the third fatality in this suspected food poisoning case.
Details of the Incident
The deceased woman, Khushboo, was the wife of Akhilesh Kharetwal. She hailed from Junnardeo in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district. Last week, she ate sweets from an unclaimed bag discovered outside the Public Health Engineering office.
Her health deteriorated rapidly after consumption. Doctors initially treated her at a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh for nearly six days. Medical professionals noted uncontrolled blood pressure and severe liver damage during this period.
Medical Treatment and Death
Authorities transferred Khushboo to AIIMS-Nagpur on Tuesday night. Her condition continued to worsen despite medical intervention. She passed away at 6:30 AM on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.
An AIIMS official described this as a suspected case of food poisoning with multi-organ failure. Medical staff conducted an autopsy immediately after her death. They preserved viscera samples and sent them for detailed chemical analysis.
Previous Casualties and Current Patients
Two other individuals died earlier from consuming the same sweets. Dasru Yaduvanshi, a 53-year-old watchman at the PHE office, died on Sunday. Sunderlal Kathuria, aged 75, passed away on Tuesday during treatment in Chhindwara.
Another woman named Santoshi continues to receive medical care in Chhindwara. A 19-year-old named Pooja was discharged after treatment at a community health center. These cases all stem from the same incident last Friday.
Investigation and Analysis
Madhya Pradesh health officials stated the autopsy did not conclusively determine the cause of death. They sent preserved viscera samples to the forensic laboratory in Sagar for comprehensive analysis.
The AIIMS official provided additional context about the case history. According to their information, three people have now died after eating sweets allegedly obtained from a tea shop.
Family and Community Impact
Khushboo leaves behind a four-month-old daughter. Her family transported her body to her native village, Thawari, for final rites. Grief has enveloped both her family and the local community following this tragic loss.
Historical Context
This incident follows another tragedy in Chhindwara district last year. Twenty-four children died from suspected toxicity after consuming a contaminated batch of cough syrup. These repeated incidents highlight ongoing concerns about food and medicine safety in the region.
The investigation continues as authorities await forensic results to determine the exact cause of these deaths.
