Mumbai: The city police, investigating the deaths of four members of a Pydhonie family, announced they have received the 'final cause of death' certificate, which cites 'poisoning due to zinc phosphide'. The report was issued by the forensic department of the state-run JJ Hospital in Byculla, which conducted the post-mortems.
Incident Details
On April 26, Abdullah Dokadia (40), his wife Nasreen (35), and their two daughters, Aayesha (16) and Zainab (13), died in hospital while undergoing treatment. The family had consumed biryani pulao followed by watermelon. They awoke at 5 a.m. experiencing discomfort and vomiting.
Forensic Findings
Last week, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report revealed that zinc phosphide, a common rodenticide, was detected in the viscera of the deceased and in the watermelon. This finding enabled the JJ Hospital forensic team to determine the cause of death and issue the certificate. The JJ Marg police are now investigating whether the deaths were homicidal, suicidal, or accidental.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are awaiting the forensic report of a rat repellent spray discovered at the Dokadias' residence, which has been sent for examination. The police continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
