Manipal Bike Rally Unites Community on World Cancer Day 2026 to Combat Cancer

In a powerful display of solidarity, Kasturba Hospital in Manipal, in collaboration with local motorcycle clubs, organized a bike rally on February 4, 2026, to mark World Cancer Day. The event, themed ‘Together We Ride for Life Against Cancer’, brought together over 100 enthusiastic riders from the Manipal Auto Club, Udupi Jawa-Yezdi Motorcycle Club, Royal Enfield Riders Udupi, and Abarana Motors, Udupi, to champion the cause of cancer awareness and prevention.

Raising Awareness Through Unity and Action

The initiative aimed to elevate public understanding of critical aspects in the fight against cancer, including prevention strategies, the importance of early detection, and the value of collective efforts. Cancer continues to be a leading cause of death globally, with risk factors such as tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, poor dietary habits, physical inactivity, and air pollution exacerbating the burden. In many areas, challenges like low awareness, delayed diagnoses, and limited access to affordable treatments worsen outcomes, making such awareness campaigns vital.

The rally symbolized unity, strength, and a shared commitment to a cancer-free future. Riders traversed key routes from Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, to Kinnimulky Swagatha Gopura and back, spreading the message that timely medical intervention and heightened awareness can save lives. The event was flagged off by SP Hariram Shankar and Dilip Jose, Managing Director and CEO of Manipal Health Enterprises Private Limited (MHEPL), who served as the guest of honor.

Key Officials Emphasize Prevention and Community Role

Prominent figures from the healthcare sector were present, including Dr. Sudhakar Kantipudi, Chief Operating Officer of the Manipal cluster; Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal; and heads of departments from the Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre (MCCCC). Dr. Kantipudi highlighted the escalating cancer burden and underscored the necessity of awareness, regular screenings, and lifestyle modifications to mitigate risks.

SP Hariram Shankar stressed the importance of discipline and safe riding practices, noting that community cooperation is essential for the success of public health initiatives. Dr. Ananth Pai, Head of the Department of Medical Oncology, provided an insightful overview of World Cancer Day, reinforcing the global significance of such events in fostering education and action against cancer.

This rally not only mobilized the local community but also served as a reminder that through collective action and informed choices, significant strides can be made in reducing the impact of cancer worldwide.
