Mangaluru: 20-Year Sentence for Minor's Sexual Assault

Mangaluru: The additional district and sessions judge, FTSC-II (Pocso), Maanu KS, sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a sexual assault case involving a minor. The convict, Dayanand Moolya, 44, was found guilty of assaulting a seven-year-old girl.

According to special public prosecutor Sahana Devi Boloor, the incident occurred on November 16, 2025, around 2 pm, when the victim was studying alone at home. The accused illegally entered the house and sexually assaulted her. He then threatened to kill her and throw her into a well if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

The girl informed her mother, who filed a complaint on November 22 at the Mulki police station. Police inspector Manjunath BS completed the investigation and submitted the chargesheet to the court.

For the sexual assault, under Pocso Section 6, along with BNS Act 65(2) and Pocso 4(2), the court sentenced Moolya to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000. For illegal entry into the house, under BNS Section 332(B), he received three years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000. For issuing death threats, under BNS Section 351(3), he was sentenced to two years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000.

The court directed that the victim be paid a total compensation of Rs 4 lakh, including Rs 40,000 from the fine amount. It also directed the district legal services authority to provide an additional Rs 3.6 lakh to the survivor.
