A 32-year-old man in Bengaluru has alleged that he discovered a lizard in a paneer tikka roll purchased from a bakery near Housing Board on Magadi Main Road. The incident reportedly led to him falling ill and being hospitalised.
Incident Details
Deepu NK, a cab driver and resident of Agrahara Dasarahalli, filed a complaint stating that on April 25, he skipped lunch and visited the bakery around 4 pm for a quick bite. After eating a piece of honey cake, he ordered a chicken roll, but since it was unavailable, he opted for a paneer tikka roll. He claimed that after consuming part of the roll, he was shocked to find a lizard inside it.
Confrontation and Health Issues
When Deepu confronted the staff, he alleged they dismissed his complaint, insisting the premises were clean and suggesting he inspect the shop. During this exchange, he vomited. A staff member then accompanied him to a private multispecialty hospital near Kamakshipalya police station, where he was admitted. He developed diarrhoea and was advised by doctors to remain under observation for 24 hours. Deepu was asked to pay the admission fee at the cash counter.
Deepu claimed the bakery staff denied responsibility for the hospital expenses and instead asked him to go to another hospital where they knew a doctor. He refused, questioning what would happen if his condition worsened during the transfer. The victim told police that the bakery had served him food containing a lizard, causing harm to his health.
Police Investigation
Govindaraja Nagar police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for negligent conduct with respect to a poisonous substance. A senior officer noted that the complainant did not provide any proof of the lizard in the food, as he failed to take a photo in panic after vomiting. The case is currently under investigation.
