Rajahmundry: A tragic incident occurred in Kovvada village under Bhimavaram mandal where a man lost his life while cleaning a drainage, and two others were hospitalised. The three workers, hailing from Gundugolanu, were assigned the task of de-silting a drainage that was filled with industrial waste from an aqua factory and a rice mill.
Details of the Incident
While carrying out the work, poisonous gases emanating from the drain caused Pallapu Venkanna (40) to collapse. He died after inhaling the toxic fumes. His son Raju and son-in-law Prabhakar were also affected by the fumes and were admitted to a hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Compensation and Assistance
The rice mill management has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh and assured medical assistance to the injured workers undergoing treatment. West Godavari SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi visited the spot and reviewed the situation.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by workers in hazardous conditions and the need for safety measures. The authorities are investigating the matter further.
