Kolkata continued to experience intense heat and humidity on Tuesday, with the Met office indicating no immediate respite. While thundershower activities were recorded in parts of southern and northern districts, officials stated that the chances of rain in the city remain slim.
Temperature and Humidity Levels
The maximum temperature reached 35.4°C, just 0.4 notches above normal. However, high humidity levels made the feel-like temperature soar to nearly 50°C during Tuesday afternoon. The minimum temperature was recorded at 29.2°C, which is 2.5 notches above the seasonal average.
Forecast and Relief Prospects
According to HR Biswas, head of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the city may experience some thundershowers over the next two to three days, but the probability is only around 40%. Even if rain occurs, the relief will be short-lived. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
