Kalyan Wedding Celebration Derailed by Mass Food Poisoning Incident
A joyous pre-wedding celebration in Kalyan took a frightening turn late Saturday night. Approximately eighty people, including the bride herself, fell violently ill with suspected food poisoning. This medical emergency forced the family to postpone the wedding ceremonies planned for Sunday.
Ceremony Venue Becomes Scene of Panic
The haldi ceremony unfolded at a hall located within a private housing complex in Khadakpada. More than one hundred twenty-five relatives and guests attended the event. The bride's family had appointed a local caterer to provide dinner, which was served after 10 pm.
Within just a few hours of eating the food, guests started experiencing severe symptoms. People complained of intense vomiting, diarrhoea, and dizziness. By around 1 am on Sunday, panic gripped the venue as nearly eighty to eighty-five individuals became sick.
Emergency Response and Hospitalizations
The situation required immediate medical attention. Several affected guests were rushed to nearby hospitals in Kalyan. Others who had already returned to their homes in Ambernath and Murbad also sought treatment at local medical facilities.
Doctors administered saline drips and emergency medication to the patients. Some individuals received treatment right at the venue itself due to the scale of the emergency.
Bride Severely Affected, Wedding Postponed
The bride was among those most severely impacted by the illness. Family members reported she was unable to walk or even stand due to extreme weakness and trauma. This left the family with no choice but to cancel and postpone all wedding ceremonies scheduled for Sunday.
Following the distressing incident, the bride's father approached the Khadakpada police station. He was accompanied by relatives to lodge a formal complaint. The father stated that several guests remain under medical care. He also claimed the family has suffered significant financial losses, estimated between ten lakh and twelve lakh rupees, because of this event.
The family is demanding strict legal action against the caterer responsible for supplying the food that caused the outbreak.
Police Investigation Underway
Senior Police Inspector Amarnath Waghmode spoke about the case. He confirmed that some affected persons are undergoing hospital treatment while others are being cared for at home. All patients are currently in stable condition.
The police have initiated an investigation into the suspected food poisoning incident. Waghmode stated that appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation findings. Police officials indicated that further steps will follow after completing the inquiry and examining all medical reports and other relevant documents.
