Jaipur Nurses Pay Candlelight Tribute to Florence Nightingale

On the eve of International Nurses Day, observed on May 12, nurses in Jaipur commemorated the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, with a heartfelt candlelight tribute at SMS Hospital. The event celebrated the legacy of Nightingale and reaffirmed the commitment of nurses to selfless patient care.

Ceremony at SMS Hospital

Rajasthan Nurses Association Jaipur district president Baldev Singh Chaudhary announced that nurses, faculty members, and students from hospitals affiliated with SMS Medical College Jaipur, Rajasthan College of Nursing, School of Nursing, RUHS, and Rajasthan Jaipuria Hospital participated in the floral tribute to Florence Nightingale through a candle-lighting ceremony. Convener Roshan Lal Yadav stated that the program commenced with lamp lighting by SMS Hospital nursing superintendent Banne Singh Meena and state president Shyam Singh.

During the ceremony, Nursing Superintendent Banne Singh Meena administered an oath to the nurses, urging them to follow Florence Nightingale’s ideals and serve patients selflessly, treating care as “Nar Seva, Narayan Seva.” This oath reinforced the dedication of nurses to their profession and the well-being of their patients.

Observance at Zenana Hospital

At Zenana Hospital in Chandpol, speakers highlighted the vital role of nurses in newborn care, stating that they bring breath to life and smiles to many faces. OPD in-charge (nursing) Ramesh Saini noted that the day honors the sacrifice, dedication, and contribution of nurses to society. He emphasized that empowering nurses with proper skills, support, and resources enables them to deliver timely, effective, and life-saving care.

The celebrations across Jaipur underscored the importance of nurses in healthcare and the enduring inspiration of Florence Nightingale’s work. The events served as a reminder of the critical role nurses play in patient care and the need for continued support and recognition of their efforts.
