Goa Human Rights Commission Issues Notice Over Noise Pollution in Dabolim
Goa Rights Commission Notice on Noise Pollution in Dabolim

The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) issued a notice on Thursday to the Chicalim panchayat secretary and the Goa State Pollution Control Board member secretary. This action followed a complaint filed by a senior citizen regarding noise pollution at Dabolim.

Senior Citizen's Complaint

The complainant, a retired teacher, stated that the noise generated by Bhagwati Structural Works, a structural fabrication workshop operating in a residential area, is severely affecting his quality of life and that of his 90-year-old mother. He reported that the constant noise makes it difficult for them to hear each other speak. The workshop operates from 8 am to 6:30 pm daily, including weekends and public holidays. In an attempt to mitigate the noise, he has blocked walls and windows in his home.

Authorities' Response Sought

Despite multiple complaints to the authorities, the problem has not been addressed seriously, according to the complainant. The GHRC chairperson, Justice Bharat P Deshpande, along with members Desmond D'Costa and Pramod Kamat, have requested responses from the concerned authorities by July 1. They have also been asked to appear in person or through a representative at the hearing.
