Alappatt, who completed his MBBS from Government Medical College in Kozhikode, was ordained as a priest in 1995. One of his initial postings was at Eravimangalam Parish in Thrissur, where he achieved a remarkable feat by making the entire village blood-literate. He spearheaded a groundbreaking initiative to include blood group information in the SSLC books of every student, making it a mandatory practice that enhanced public awareness and safety.
His journey into blood donation advocacy began during his student days when he observed touts exploiting patients in need of blood transfusions at Kozhikode Medical College, charging exorbitant fees. In response, he mobilized approximately 50 MBBS students to pledge free blood donations, launching a campaign that spanned several decades and fundamentally changed the landscape of blood donation in Kerala.

Father Alappatt was the visionary founder of the Kerala Blood Donors' Forum (KBF), an organization that popularized the powerful motto 'Give blood, give life'. Under his leadership, KBF set a high standard for organizational integrity and propriety, notably deciding to dissolve its structural framework in 2015 after recognizing that its primary goals had been largely achieved. He also ventured into filmmaking, directing a documentary on blood donation titled Poovithal Pozhiyumbol and a short film Ormakalkappuram starring T G Ravi, using these mediums to further his advocacy and educate the public.
His contributions extended to healthcare infrastructure as well; he played a pivotal role as the founder director of Jubilee Mission Medical College, with Raman noting that the institution's success would not have been possible without his dedicated efforts.
