Dhubri Cancer Screening Camp for 35 Women on World Cancer Day

In a significant community health initiative, nearly 35 women underwent comprehensive cancer screening at a specialized health camp held on Tuesday at Dhubri Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The event was meticulously organized to coincide with World Cancer Day, highlighting the global fight against this pervasive disease.

Collaborative Effort for Cancer Awareness

The camp was a joint venture, orchestrated by the Dhubri and Gauripur Akhil Bharatiya Terapanth Mahila Mandal in close collaboration with DMCH. This partnership underscores a growing commitment to public health in the region, bringing together community organizations and medical institutions for a common cause.

Inauguration by Medical Authorities

The proceedings were formally inaugurated by DMCH superintendent Prof. (Dr.) Gunajit Das, who emphasized the critical importance of such initiatives. In his address, Dr. Das pointed out a concerning trend: the rising prevalence of cervical PAP SMEAR type cancers in recent times. He stressed that regular testing through camps like this is essential for early detection and prevention.

"We are observing an increase in cervical cancer cases, and these health camps play a vital role in raising awareness among the populace," Dr. Das stated. "Our facilities are fully prepared to support ongoing awareness efforts in the future, ensuring that testing becomes a routine practice for community health."

Overcoming Challenges to Implement the Camp

Chhaya Oswal, the coordinator of the screening camp, and Pinky Chhajer, president of the Gauripur Mahila Mandal, expressed their gratitude towards DMCH for their unwavering support. They revealed that organizing such a camp had been a long-standing goal, but previous attempts faced implementation hurdles. This successful event marks a milestone in their persistent efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility for women in the area.

The event saw the participation of several notable figures, underscoring its significance:

  • Samar Sarma, Dhubri district coordinator of the Assam Cancer Foundation
  • Binod Kundalia and Surendra Oswal, senior office bearers of the Dhubri Terapanth Samaj
  • Dr. Shyamanta Das, a senior professor at DMCH
