A customer at a vegetarian restaurant in Ludhiana discovered a cockroach in a plate of noodles during a buffet service on Friday, prompting a health department inspection and the collection of food samples. The incident caused a commotion, with the customer alleging that the owner attempted to dispose of the insect to cover up the issue. The owner, however, denied these claims.
Health Team Investigation
Following a formal complaint, a health team led by District Health Officer Dr Ashish Chawla inspected the premises at 3 pm. Food Safety Officer Yogesh Goyal confirmed that samples of noodles and Manchurian were seized for analysis at the State Food Laboratory in Mohali. Officials also examined the kitchen and demanded that the owner provide staff medical records and a pest control report.
Legal Action Pending
Further legal action will depend on laboratory results, as authorities continue to investigate discrepancies found during the site visit. The health department has issued an improvement notice to the restaurant, emphasizing the need for compliance with hygiene standards.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about food safety in the region. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any violations to the health department for prompt action.
