Young Boy Hospitalized After Stray Dog Attack in Ludhiana
A five-year-old boy named Navnoor Singh is now recovering in the hospital. Stray dogs attacked him outside his home in Ludhiana on Sunday. This brutal incident marks the latest in a series of canine attacks that are alarming the region.
Sudden Ambush at Home Entrance
Navnoor was standing at the entrance of his house in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony on Amloh Road. Four to five dogs suddenly ambushed him. His father, Jaswinder Singh, described how the animals knocked the child to the ground. They bit him repeatedly on the back of his head.
Family members rushed to the scene after hearing the boy's screams. They managed to drive the pack away quickly. Navnoor was then transported to Khanna Govt Hospital for urgent care.
Medical Response and Current Condition
Senior medical officer Dr Maninder Bhasin confirmed that emergency treatment started immediately. The child is stable currently, but the attack has reignited deep fears among local residents. People are worried about the growing stray dog population, which appears increasingly aggressive.
Alarming Rise in Dog Bite Cases
Data from Khanna Govt Hospital reveals a grim trend. Dog bite cases have climbed steadily over the past four years. In 2022, the hospital recorded 2,313 cases. This number jumped to a record 4,061 cases in 2025. That represents a nearly 75 percent increase in reported attacks within the municipality.
The crisis peaked in early October last year. The hospital recorded 29 bite cases in just 48 hours during that period. Children were the primary targets in many of these incidents. Similarly, in September 2025, a single ward reported 14 fresh attacks in one day alone.
Community Concerns and Lack of Action
Despite the rising tally of victims, residents say authorities have not addressed the threat adequately. Neighborhoods like Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony remain in a state of constant vigil. Families fear for their children's safety every day.
The public health system is under siege from this escalating problem. Local communities are calling for immediate measures to control the stray dog population and prevent further attacks.
