A 25-year-old man undergoing treatment for blood cancer died by suicide at KEM Hospital in Mumbai on Friday. The deceased, identified as Aravind Lohar, had been admitted to the hospital's Hematology Department for the past month.
According to hospital officials, his condition had shown signs of improvement in recent days and he was expected to be discharged soon. However, around 1:00 pm, Lohar allegedly hanged himself from a metal pipe located just outside the patient ward of the Hematology Department. The incident came to light shortly after, following which the hospital administration alerted the police.
Bhoiwada Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). Dean of KEM Hospital Dr Sangeeta Ravat said that the patient was suffering from acute leukemia but had been recovering well. According to Dr Ravat, there were no prior indications of psychological distress. She said other patients in the ward recalled watching a cricket match with him just the evening before.
