The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Deepnagar police station, casting a shadow over the region as authorities were simultaneously managing security for President Droupadi Murmu's visit to Nalanda University.

Chaos Erupts During Prayer Ritual

The tragedy unfolded when an unusually large crowd gathered on the temple premises for a prayer ritual. According to local reports, the situation turned chaotic as the crowd swelled beyond expectations, leading to panic and a sudden stampede among devotees. A local resident, Mantu Singh, explained that every Tuesday attracts a significant number of devotees from Nalanda and adjoining districts for darshan of Maa Sheetla. This Tuesday, being the last day of the Chaitra month, saw an unprecedented surge in attendance.

"Many of them broke queues to get early darshan, which caused the stampede," Singh added, highlighting the lack of crowd control measures. The majority of the injured were also women, exacerbating the human toll of the disaster.
