Bhopal Heatwave: Temperatures Cross 40°C After Brief Respite

Bhopal: After a brief respite brought by pre-monsoon showers, daytime temperatures have once again soared above the 40 degrees Celsius mark across most parts of Madhya Pradesh. According to the meteorological department, harsh weather conditions are expected to dominate the region until the weekend.

Weather Systems and Conditions

The meteorological department has reported that a cyclonic circulation persists over northwest Uttar Pradesh and its neighbourhood, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. Additionally, another cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood also persists, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. A trough at mean sea level runs from Punjab to Bihar, passing through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from June 11, the meteorological department stated. However, dry weather is expected to prevail over most places in the state.

Temperature Records

On Tuesday, Bhopal recorded a maximum temperature of 40.0 degrees Celsius, which is one degree below the normal mark. The minimum temperature in the city was 26.8 degrees Celsius, also one degree below normal. In contrast, Khajuraho recorded a scorching 46 degrees Celsius during the day.

Forecast for Bhopal and the State

For Wednesday, the meteorological department has predicted partly cloudy skies in Bhopal. The day and night temperatures are expected to be 40 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively, with an average wind speed of 18 kilometers per hour.

For the state, the department has issued a warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph for several districts. These include Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Maihar, and Pandhurna.

Dry weather is expected to prevail over the remaining parts of the state.

Outlook

In its weather outlook, the meteorological department highlighted that there will be a gradual rise in temperature by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days.
