Massive Bee Swarm Disrupts Ramzan Prayer in Davanagere, Over 50 Injured
A peaceful morning prayer gathering for the Ramzan festival turned into a scene of chaos and panic when a large swarm of bees attacked worshippers at the Eidgah ground in Anagodu village, Davanagere district, on Saturday morning. The unexpected incident resulted in injuries to more than 50 individuals, including police personnel deployed for security and several children.
Details of the Attack and Injuries
The bee swarm descended upon the communal prayer area without warning, causing widespread panic as people attempted to flee. Among those injured were Assistant Sub-Inspector Narappa and three other police personnel who were on duty to maintain security during the religious event. The majority of the injured were Muslims attending the prayer, along with some nearby individuals who were caught in the swarm.
Medical Response and Hospital Admissions
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and eleven of the most seriously injured individuals were transported to Davanagere District Hospital for urgent medical care. This group included three children who sustained significant injuries from multiple bee stings. One person with a pre-existing heart condition required immediate treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to complications arising from the attack.
Fortunately, medical authorities confirmed that the remaining injured individuals did not suffer life-threatening injuries. Their health conditions were reported as stable following initial treatment, with doctors monitoring them for any allergic reactions or secondary complications from the bee stings.
Political Response and Community Support
Mayakonda MLA KS Basavanthappa promptly visited the hospital after being informed about the incident. He personally checked on the condition of the injured victims and instructed the medical staff to provide all necessary and appropriate treatment. The MLA emphasized the importance of ensuring comprehensive care for everyone affected by this unfortunate event.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the bee swarm attack, examining whether environmental factors or nearby disturbances might have provoked the insects.
