Bee Attack at Mandsaur Puja Injures Dozens, Sparks Panic

Bee Swarm Unleashes Chaos During Religious Ceremony in Mandsaur

A peaceful morning ritual turned into a scene of panic and injury in Mandsaur on Friday when a massive swarm of bees descended upon devotees performing Dasha Mata puja. The incident left half a dozen women and several men with painful stings, requiring medical attention at local healthcare facilities.

Ritual Smoke Triggers Aggressive Bee Response

The attack unfolded in a garden near Chaudhary Colony where women had gathered to conduct the traditional puja ceremony. As participants lit incense sticks and dhoop as part of their religious observance, the smoke inadvertently disturbed a beehive concealed within a nearby tree. This disturbance provoked the colony of bees into launching a coordinated assault on the assembled devotees.

Eyewitnesses described a sudden, terrifying onslaught as hundreds of bees swarmed directly toward the worshippers. Women participating in the ceremony fled in sheer panic, with some children who were present at the location also caught in the chaotic scramble for safety. Men who rushed forward to assist the affected women found themselves similarly targeted by the aggressive insects.

Medical Response and Treatment for Victims

Following the distressing incident, most of those injured sought immediate medical treatment from private doctors operating in the vicinity. A smaller number of more seriously affected individuals required attention at the emergency ward of the district hospital.

Dr. BL Rawat, Civil Surgeon at the district hospital, provided details about one particular case: "We admitted a 62-year-old woman, a local resident, as a precautionary measure. Her condition remains stable and we are monitoring her closely." The hospital authorities chose not to disclose the names of other patients treated during the emergency, though confirmed that all except the admitted woman were treated and discharged after receiving appropriate care.

Remarkably, despite the frightening interruption and multiple injuries, the determined devotees eventually completed their Dasha Mata puja ceremony at an alternative location near other trees in the same general area.

Recent History of Similar Bee Attacks in Region

This troubling incident follows another serious bee attack that occurred just weeks earlier in neighboring Neemuch district. In that previous case, the president of a local self-help group suffered critical stings while attempting to shield children at an Anganwadi center from an attacking swarm.

Tragically, the woman succumbed to her injuries while being transported to a hospital for emergency treatment. The state government subsequently intervened by providing financial assistance to her bereaved family and assuming responsibility for the educational needs of her children.

These consecutive incidents highlight growing concerns about human-bee conflicts in the region, particularly during outdoor religious and community gatherings where traditional practices involving smoke or fire might inadvertently provoke defensive responses from local bee populations.
