Army War College Mhow Plants Medicinal Saplings on World Environment Day

Army War College (AWC), Mhow, commemorated World Environment Day on Friday by organising a special plantation programme under the banner of 'Dhanwantari Aushadhi Vatika', as part of the Environmental Forestry Scheme 2026. The event aimed to promote environmental conservation and the cultivation of medicinal plants.

Plantation Drive Details

In collaboration with the forest department's Mhow range and Indore forest division, Army personnel planted a variety of medicinal saplings, including Ashwagandha, Tulsi, Amla, Aloe Vera, and Giloy. According to an AWC press release, the drive targeted planting approximately 1,000 saplings belonging to around 50 medicinal species. Notably, the initiative included rare, endangered, and threatened (RET) varieties, underscoring the commitment to biodiversity conservation.

Participation and Leadership

The event witnessed the presence of AWC Commandant Lt Gen Ajay Chandpuriya, Deputy Commandant Maj Gen Gaurav Rishi, and other senior officers of the College. Senior Army officers, jawans, and officials from the forest department actively participated in the activity, reflecting a collaborative effort between the military and environmental agencies.

The plantation programme not only contributes to the green cover but also promotes awareness about the importance of medicinal plants and their role in healthcare. By involving various stakeholders, the initiative sets an example for community-driven environmental stewardship.
