Shivamogga: An 85-year-old man reportedly died by suicide after shooting himself with a licensed single-barrel gun at his house in Koteshiruru village (Tattekodlu) near Nitturu in Hosanagara taluk, during the early hours of Monday. The deceased has been identified as B R Ramachandra Rao.
Health Struggles and Personal Loss
According to family sources, Rao was suffering from chronic kidney failure and was undergoing medical treatment. His health complications recently worsened after he suffered a fall due to dizziness. Family members noted that he was deeply affected since the passing of his wife five years ago and rarely ventured outside the house.
Events Leading to the Tragedy
Rao spoke with his children last night and consumed betel leaves and arecanut before retiring to his room. He reportedly shot himself near the neck inside his room, resulting in fatal head injuries. The tragedy came to light when his children heard the gunshot and rushed to check on him.
Possible Reasons
Chronic health issues and prolonged physical distress are suspected to be the primary reasons behind the extreme step. The combination of his deteriorating health and the emotional void left by his wife's death may have contributed to his decision.
Police Investigation
Shivamogga SP B Nikhil said Nagara police visited the spot to conduct an inspection. A case has been registered at Nagara police station, and further investigation is under way. Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring all legal procedures are followed.
