Mysuru Hospital and Automotive Axles Perform 47 Free Breast Cancer Surgeries for Needy Women
In a significant humanitarian initiative, Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology (BHIO) in Mysuru, in partnership with Automotive Axles, has successfully completed 47 free breast cancer surgeries for underprivileged women. This effort was carried out under the 'Nari Swasthi' project, which aims to provide fully funded surgical treatment to economically disadvantaged women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Removing Financial Barriers for Timely Care
The 'Nari Swasthi' project was specifically launched to eliminate financial obstacles that often prevent women from accessing critical medical care. By covering all costs associated with surgery, the programme ensured that patients received timely and high-quality surgical interventions without any financial burden. This approach is crucial in a country where breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among women, with mortality rates frequently increasing due to delays in diagnosis and treatment.
Medical Experts Emphasize Holistic Support
Dr YS Madhavi, the chief radiation oncologist and medical superintendent at BHIO, highlighted the importance of early detection and comprehensive care in managing breast cancer. She stated, "Our goal extends beyond just providing treatment; we are committed to guiding patients through their recovery process, offering counselling, and ensuring holistic care that addresses both physical and emotional needs." Dr Madhavi pointed out that many women in India face challenges in accessing healthcare, making initiatives like 'Nari Swasthi' vital for improving outcomes.
Dr Vijaykumar M, a senior consultant surgical oncologist and robotic surgeon who performed the surgeries, shared insights into the emotional and social impact of the project. He remarked, "Each patient's journey is unique, and it is incredibly rewarding to witness these women regain hope and strength. Surgical treatment is merely one component of recovery; emotional support and regular follow-up care are equally essential for long-term health." He added that several beneficiaries did not even possess Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards, yet they were able to access life-saving treatment through this initiative and are now leading healthier lives.
Corporate Commitment to Community Welfare
Nagaraja Gargeshwari, president and director of Automotive Axles, expressed the company's dedication to social responsibility. He said, "Through the 'Nari Swasthi' programme, we are proud to contribute our resources to create a meaningful and lasting impact in the community. Supporting healthcare initiatives aligns with our commitment to enhancing the well-being of society." The collaboration between BHIO and Automotive Axles demonstrates how corporate partnerships can drive positive change in public health.
Gratitude from Beneficiaries
Patients who benefited from the surgeries expressed profound gratitude for the support received. Sangeetha R (name changed), one of the beneficiaries, shared, "I never imagined I could afford such advanced treatment. Thanks to this project, I now feel hopeful about my future and am on the path to recovery." Another patient, Radha M (name changed), appreciated the compassionate care and dignity shown by the hospital staff throughout her treatment journey.
The presence of BHIO COO Gowtham Dhamerla at the event underscored the hospital's commitment to the initiative. This project not only provides immediate medical relief but also raises awareness about the importance of early breast cancer screening and accessible healthcare for all women, regardless of their economic status.
