In a special operation on Wednesday, Chatra police seized approximately 2.28 kg of opium valued at around Rs 10 lakh and arrested one individual. The accused has been identified as Vikas Kumar, a resident of Lipda village under the Sadar police station limits.
Operation Details
Acting on intelligence that a consignment of opium was being transported from Chatra to Itkhori in a white car, a special team was formed under the leadership of DSP (Headquarters) Amita Lakra. A vehicle-checking drive was initiated near Baksa bridge on the Itkhori–Chatra road. During the inspection, a suspicious car was intercepted and searched, leading to the recovery of 2.28 kg of opium. The car, bearing registration number JH02BJ-5997, along with a mobile phone, was seized.
Legal Proceedings
An FIR has been registered under sections 18(E), 28, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Chatra SP Animesh Naithany stated that further investigation is underway, and raids are being conducted to trace and arrest other members of the racket.
