15 Students Hospitalized After Suspected Food Poisoning at Nagpur Residential School
In a distressing incident, fifteen students from a residential school for intellectually disabled children in Nagpur fell ill with suspected food poisoning on Saturday. The affected group included 4 girls and 11 boys, all of whom were admitted to the sub-district hospital in Ramtek for urgent medical treatment.

The incident occurred at the Suraj Residential School, located in Kachurwahi village, approximately 15 kilometers from the tehsil headquarters. The students consumed a midday meal consisting of dal, rice, vegetable curry, and chapatis, which was served around 11 a.m. on Saturday. Within about 15 minutes of eating, several students began experiencing severe symptoms, including vomiting, prompting immediate concern and action from school authorities.
Medical Response and Condition of Students
All fifteen students were swiftly transported to the sub-district hospital in Ramtek. Dr. Sanjay Waghmare, the medical superintendent at the hospital, provided an update on their condition. "All the 15 students are stable and responding well to treatment," he stated. "They will be kept under observation for 24 hours and are likely to be discharged on Sunday," he added, offering reassurance about their recovery prospects.
School Background and Investigation
The Suraj Residential School is authorized by the Maharashtra government to admit up to 40 students. Currently, 35 students are enrolled and residing at the facility, according to sources. Hospital authorities have emphasized that the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning remains unclear and will only be determined after a thorough investigation.
