Vijayawada's 108 Ambulance Service Achieves Record Emergency Response Milestone

In a remarkable demonstration of efficiency and dedication, the 108 ambulance service operated by Bhavya Health Services in Vijayawada has set a new benchmark in emergency medical response. Over a span of just ten months, from June 2025 to March 2026, this critical service attended to an astounding over 6.39 lakh emergency cases. This achievement marks a significant milestone in Andhra Pradesh's ongoing efforts to strengthen pre-hospital care and ensure timely medical intervention for citizens across the state.

Life-Saving Interventions Across Diverse Emergency Scenarios

Officials have highlighted the pivotal role played by the ambulance network in saving lives during critical situations. The service proved instrumental in managing 9,183 cardiac emergency cases, where every second counted in delivering timely medical attention to patients. Additionally, it provided immediate care in 92,372 road accident cases and 40,450 other trauma incidents, underscoring its vital importance in handling a wide range of critical emergencies that demand swift and expert response.

In the realm of maternal and child health, the ambulances facilitated safe transport and emergency care for 87,320 pregnant women and 11,614 infants. This contribution has been crucial in improving healthcare access, particularly in remote and underserved regions, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the necessary medical support during emergencies.

Enhanced Fleet and Advanced Technological Integration

To bolster operational efficiency and response capabilities, the ambulance fleet has undergone a significant upgrade. 190 new advanced ambulances have been added, bringing the total number of vehicles to 731. Each ambulance is equipped with state-of-the-art life support systems, including ventilators, defibrillators, and oxygen supply units, ensuring that patients receive advanced medical care en route to hospitals. These vehicles are staffed by trained Emergency Medical Technicians who are skilled in handling emergencies with precision and care.

A 24/7 control room equipped with GPS tracking technology enables real-time monitoring of ambulance movements, allowing for faster and more coordinated responses to distress calls. Furthermore, as part of the state's telemedicine initiative, a team of 18 specialist doctors provides live guidance to onboard medical staff through CCTV and mobile data terminals. This innovative approach allows treatment to commence even before patients reach hospital facilities, potentially saving crucial minutes in life-threatening situations.

Comprehensive Emergency Response and Government Commitment

Of the total cases handled, 4,33,242 involved direct emergency responses from incident locations, while 2,06,567 cases consisted of inter-facility transfers to higher-level hospitals for specialized care. This balanced approach ensures that patients receive appropriate medical attention at every stage of their emergency journey.

Officials have emphasized that this strengthened emergency response system reflects the government's unwavering commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to every household. On this occasion, citizens have been urged to dial 108 in case of emergencies to avail themselves of this free and potentially life-saving service. The continued success of the 108 ambulance service stands as a testament to the power of coordinated efforts in public health and emergency management.
