Trichy: People's Development Initiatives (PDI), an organization dedicated to the advancement of marginalized women, recently concluded a three-month-long tailoring training program for 52 underprivileged women residing in low-income group areas of Trichy city. The successful trainees were awarded certificates by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) on Wednesday.
Empowering Marginalized Communities
According to I Ambalavanan, director of PDI, approximately 75% of the women trained belonged to Dalit communities, many of whom were employed in the sanitation sector. He emphasized that such vocational training provides these women with opportunities to work or launch businesses in other sectors, thereby improving their livelihoods.
Government Schemes and Financial Assistance
L Anit Vimalin, District Manager of TAHDCO in Trichy, provided an overview of various government welfare and financial assistance schemes designed to foster entrepreneurship among marginalized communities, particularly women. She explained the funding schemes and opportunities available under the CM-ARISE and PM-AJAY initiatives, which include credit-linked subsidies and self-employment support through the Cleanliness Workers Welfare Board.
The women were encouraged to become entrepreneurs by utilizing these schemes and achieving economic independence. The training program not only equipped them with valuable tailoring skills but also informed them about the resources available to start their own ventures.
This initiative by PDI and TAHDCO highlights the importance of vocational training and government support in empowering underprivileged women and promoting inclusive economic growth.
