The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has announced a new initiative to award 'green property tags' to residential and commercial properties that adopt environmentally sustainable practices. This move aims to encourage eco-friendly living and reduce the city's carbon footprint.
Inspired by Local Experts
Sustainable living experts U N Ravikumar and Ramesh Kikkeri have set a remarkable example by transforming their homes in Mysuru into models of environmental responsibility. Their properties incorporate rainwater harvesting, solar energy systems, waste segregation, and green roofing, among other features. The MCC plans to use their homes as benchmarks for the green property tag criteria.
Criteria for Green Tags
Properties will be evaluated based on several parameters, including water conservation, energy efficiency, waste management, and use of sustainable materials. The MCC will conduct inspections and provide certifications to qualifying properties, which may also receive tax benefits or other incentives.
This initiative is part of a broader push by the MCC to promote sustainable urban development. The corporation hopes that the green property tags will not only recognize efforts but also inspire more residents to adopt eco-friendly practices.
Community Impact
Local environmentalists have welcomed the move, stating that it could significantly reduce Mysuru's environmental impact. The MCC plans to launch a public awareness campaign to educate citizens about the benefits of sustainable living and the application process for the green tags.
Ravikumar and Kikkeri expressed their support for the initiative, emphasizing that small changes at the household level can lead to large-scale environmental benefits. They urged citizens to participate actively in making Mysuru a greener city.
