Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has announced that it has successfully encouraged 56,978 families in the city to adopt home composting practices. This initiative is part of a broader effort to manage organic waste at the source and promote sustainable urban living.
Home Composting Initiative Details
According to IMC commissioner Kshitij Singhal, residents are now managing organic waste by installing composting bins that convert household wet waste into high-quality organic fertilizer. This has significantly reduced the total volume of municipal garbage collected on a daily basis. The compost generated is being used locally in household lawns, kitchen gardens, and terrace gardens to cultivate fruits, vegetables, and plants, thereby decreasing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
Awareness Campaigns to Drive Participation
To boost public involvement, IMC has launched creative awareness campaigns specifically designed to engage and incentivize homemakers to lead scientific waste disposal efforts within their homes. Senior municipal officials have urged more citizens to adopt this practice to support sustainable and green urban development.
The initiative not only reduces waste but also promotes local food production and environmental sustainability. IMC continues to encourage residents to participate in this eco-friendly movement for a cleaner and greener Indore.
