Jaipur: Health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar on Wednesday inaugurated new modern facilities, including a skill lab and a neuro-otology lab, at the ENT department of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College. These developments are part of ongoing efforts to upgrade medical infrastructure in Rajasthan.
Khimsar stated that such initiatives are highly beneficial not only for improving patient care but also for enhancing the education of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical students. He emphasized that the expansion of advanced medical infrastructure is a crucial step towards providing better healthcare services to the people of Rajasthan.
Dr. Pawan Singhal, head of the ENT department, highlighted major improvements in patient care, UG and PG teaching, faculty development, and research. One of the most significant achievements is the establishment of a state-of-the-art cochlear implant operation theatre, which will facilitate complex ear surgeries and hearing restoration procedures.
New Facilities at a Glance
Dr. Singhal elaborated on the new facilities, noting that an 800-square-foot surgical skills lab with 10 stations has been developed to provide hands-on training to resident doctors. A comprehensive neuro-otology lab has been set up for the diagnosis and treatment of vertigo and related disorders. Additionally, the OPD and OT blocks have been renovated, and several advanced instruments, including a complete sialendoscopy set, have been introduced.
Strengthened Audiology Services
Audiology services have been significantly strengthened with new rooms, modern machines, and the appointment of five audiologists. An eight-room audiology wing has been developed, greatly expanding the department's diagnostic and treatment capacity.
These advancements are expected to benefit thousands of patients suffering from ear, nose, and throat conditions, as well as provide enhanced training opportunities for medical students and faculty. The state government continues to prioritize healthcare infrastructure development across Rajasthan.
