Purnima is one of the most sacred days in Hinduism, observed with devotion and prayers to Lord Vishnu and the Moon God. There are twelve Purnimas in a year, and Guru Purnima is among the most prominent. This day is dedicated to honoring the Guru — whether a spiritual master, mentor, teacher, guide, or even parents and siblings.
Who is a Guru?
A Guru is one who shows you the right path in life. On this day, you should honor your Guru and make them feel special. A Guru does not always praise you but points out your mistakes and encourages you to learn from them. They guide you toward the correct way of living.
How to Celebrate Guru Purnima
Wake up early, clean the house, take a holy bath, and seek blessings from elders (parents and elder siblings). Offer Arghya (water) to Lord Surya. Worship Lord Ganesha first, as he represents knowledge and wisdom. If you have taken deeksha, chant the Guru mantra. Then visit your spiritual Guru if possible. Express gratitude and seek blessings. You can offer clothes, fruits, shoes, and dakshina. Choose a mantra and chant it as many times as you can.
