AP Launches E-Magazine on Animal Husbandry for Farmers

The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a dedicated e-magazine on animal husbandry titled 'Pashu Samvardhaka Margadarshini' to modernize the livestock sector and empower farmers. The initiative was formally introduced by Animal Husbandry Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu on April 30.

Digital Platform for Farmers

Positioned as a digital knowledge platform, the e-magazine will be made available to farmers through the SMILE website and WhatsApp from April onwards. It is designed to provide comprehensive information on livestock health, nutrition, breeding practices, and market opportunities, along with expert advice and real-life success stories from farmers.

Significance of Livestock Sector

Officials highlighted that nearly 25 lakh farmers in the state depend on the animal husbandry sector for their livelihood. In the financial year 2025-26, the sector contributed a gross value added of Rs 1,76,151 crore, underlining its importance to the rural economy.

Addressing Youth Apathy

However, the minister noted a growing concern that youth are increasingly moving towards technology-driven careers, distancing themselves from traditional sectors like livestock farming. He also pointed out that the rise of artificial intelligence may reduce conventional job opportunities, making it essential for young people to explore sustainable alternatives such as animal husbandry.

Encouraging Entrepreneurship

Encouraging entrepreneurship, the minister urged youth to take up dairy farming, poultry, and piggery on a commercial scale. He revealed that three-day training programmes conducted in Visakhapatnam have already trained around 1,500 individuals, with nearly 200 successfully launching their own ventures.

Resource for Field Staff

The e-magazine will also serve as a resource for field staff, equipping them with updated knowledge. The minister added that adopting organic livestock practices can help farmers earn Rs 5-6 lakh per acre annually, emphasising the government's goal of creating at least one entrepreneur in every household.
