Ancient Astrology Text Links Lord Vishnu to Planetary Governance

Maharishi Parashara composed the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. This ancient astrological text remains shrouded in mystery. Parashara wrote it in the form of Sanskrit shlokas. He was the father of Vyasa, the sage who compiled and wrote the Vedas. Vyasa also famously composed the Mahabharata, Srimad Bhagavatam, and the Bhagavad Gita.

Spiritual Connection Between Lord Vishnu and the Planets

The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra clearly states that Lord Vishnu holds a deep connection with the Grahas, or planets. We will explore why Maharishi Parashara made this assertion. According to this revered text, nine planets associate directly with Lord Vishnu. He rules over dharma, time, and karma through these celestial bodies.

A specific shloka from the Hora Shastra illustrates this connection. It reads: "Ramavatrah Suryasya, chadrasya Yadunayakaha, Narsimha Bhumi Putrasya Buddhah Somsutasyaha Ch, Vamano Vibhdhejyasye Bhargavo Bhargavasyaye Ch, Kurmo Bhaskar Putrasyaye Sehikeyasyaye Sukarah, Keturminavatarash Ch, Ye chanye teapi Khetjaha, Paratmamshoadhiko, Yeshu te Sarve Khechramidhaha".

Planets Are Governed by Lord Vishnu

The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra explains that each planet resonates with Lord Vishnu. Every planet possesses a distinct nature. They dispense rewards and punishments according to an individual's karma, all under Lord Vishnu's guidance. Parashara details nine specific forms of Lord Vishnu and their planetary connections.

  1. Sun (Lord Surya) - Lord Rama
  2. Moon (Chandrama) - Lord Krishna
  3. Mars (Mangal) - Lord Narasimha
  4. Jupiter (Guru Brihaspati) - Lord Vamana
  5. Mercury (Budh) - Lord Buddha
  6. Venus (Shukra) - Lord Parashuram
  7. Saturn (Shani) - Lord Koorma
  8. Rahu - Varaha Avatar
  9. Ketu - Matsya Avatar

According to Parashara, Lord Vishnu rules these nine planets. As the preserver of the universe, Vishnu incarnated on Earth to establish righteousness and restore dharma. The planets essentially manifest as forms of Vishnu. They guide and encourage every soul toward balance and necessary change. Understanding the unique nature of each planet becomes crucial for spiritual and astrological insight.
