Netflix Partners with Delhi Government for Special Screening of Animated Mythology Series Kurukshetra

In a significant cultural collaboration, streaming giant Netflix joined forces with the Government of NCT of Delhi to host an exclusive screening event for its groundbreaking animated series Kurukshetra at the Delhi Secretariat Auditorium during October. This marks Netflix India's inaugural venture into animated mythology content, representing a major milestone in the platform's content strategy.

Reimagining the Mahabharata Through Innovative Storytelling

The series comprises 18 meticulously crafted episodes, each dedicated to exploring the Mahabharata's epic narrative through the distinct voices and critical choices of 18 different warriors across the legendary war's 18 days. This innovative approach serves a dual purpose: reviving the timeless epic for established audiences while presenting it in a fresh, contemporary format that resonates with younger generations.

At the creative heart of Kurukshetra lies the lyrical genius of Gulzar, whose poetic contributions blend seamlessly with anime-inspired animation, evocative musical scores, and mythological depth to create a truly unique viewing experience. The production represents a collaboration between Tipping Point Productions, with Ujaan Ganguly serving as writer and director, and Hitech Animation bringing the visual elements to life with technical precision.

Official Statements Highlight Cultural Significance

Kapil Mishra, Hon'ble Minister for Art, Culture & Language, Government of NCT of Delhi, emphasized the series' cultural importance during the screening event. "The history of the Mahabharata forms an integral part of Delhi's rich heritage," stated Mishra. "Kurukshetra brings this monumental narrative to life in a manner accessible to millions of future generations. I commend Netflix and the entire creative team for this initiative and encourage the artistic community to continue sharing India's authentic history—including hidden stories, tales of brave women, and examples of courage and sacrifice—so these valuable lessons reach audiences worldwide."

Mahima Kaul, Director of Global Affairs for India at Netflix, elaborated on the platform's strategic vision. "Kurukshetra represents Netflix's first animated mythology series, specifically created to bridge generational divides," explained Kaul. "It resonates powerfully with those who grew up with the Mahabharata and now wish to share its wisdom with younger audiences through innovative storytelling. Aligned with the government's 'Make in India, for the world' vision, our objective is to tell stories deeply rooted in Indian culture, and Kurukshetra embodies this spirit perfectly."

Global Accessibility and Cultural Investment

The series demonstrates Netflix's commitment to accessibility through extensive language options. Kurukshetra will be available in multiple Indian and international languages, with subtitles in 34 additional languages and inclusive Hindi audio description features. This comprehensive approach ensures the epic can be experienced by diverse audiences across geographical and linguistic boundaries.

With Kurukshetra's official premiere scheduled for October 10, 2025, exclusively on Netflix, the platform continues to deepen its investment in narratives rooted in India's cultural heritage, diverse populations, and distinctive landscapes. This initiative celebrates the country's vast narrative treasury while strategically sharing these stories with global audiences, positioning Indian mythology within contemporary entertainment frameworks.
