Gkids Announces New 4K Studio Ghibli Releases for North American Theaters
Gkids, a prominent American television and film producer, is set to enrich its North American lineup with two beloved animated classics. The company has confirmed newly remastered 4K releases of 'Whisper of the Heart' and 'The Secret World of Arrietty', scheduled for April 21 and May 19, respectively. These screenings will be showcased in IMAX theaters across the United States and Canada, offering both the original Japanese language with subtitles and English-dubbed versions to cater to diverse audiences.

This move is part of Gkids' ongoing strategy to reintroduce restored Studio Ghibli titles in premium formats, aiming to reach a broader viewership. According to a report from Variety, the company is extending its collaboration to bring a series of newly remastered films to theaters throughout North America. The wider rollout began in December, with these two films following the upcoming 4K remaster run of 'Kiki's Delivery Service', set to commence on March 13.
The partnership has already demonstrated significant success, as evidenced by the performance of 'Princess Mononoke'. This film became the second-highest-grossing vault release in the history of large-screen formats, highlighting the strong audience demand for these enhanced cinematic experiences.

'Whisper of the Heart' originally debuted in 1995. 'The Secret World of Arrietty' was released in 2010.
