Dayanand Shetty plays 'manny' in Netflix series 'Single Papa'

In a refreshing departure from his tough cop persona, veteran actor Dayanand Shetty is set to charm audiences with a role filled with warmth and affection. The actor, beloved as Senior Inspector Daya from the iconic show 'CID', will be seen as a male nanny, or "manny," in the upcoming Netflix series 'Single Papa'.

Dayanand Shetty Embraces a New Kind of Role

In an exclusive conversation, Shetty expressed his excitement about playing Parbat Singh, the 'manny' to a child being adopted by Gaurav Gehlot, portrayed by Kunal Kemmu. The actor revealed that this character is a special one for him, marking a significant shift from the intense roles he is typically known for. "He's a character unlike anything I've played so far. It's very special to be able to play a character with so much warmth and love," Shetty told IANS.

Shetty emphasized that his role challenges traditional gender norms in caregiving. "Parbat captures the idea that gender should never limit the roles people take on in society," he stated. The actor elaborated that just as women can be CEOs, men can excel as nurturers. "Parbat doesn't care what people think; he knows how to do his job, and he does it better than anyone else around, and he prides himself on it."

What to Expect from 'Single Papa'

The series promises a blend of comedy and heartfelt moments. It revolves around Gaurav Gehlot, a lovable but immature man whose life takes an unexpected turn when he decides to adopt a baby right after his divorce. This sudden move sends his family into a frenzy, leading to what the show describes as "unprecedented kalesh" as they grapple with his unconventional decision.

The ensemble cast features popular names including Manoj Pahwa, Prajakta Koli, Neha Dhupia, and Ayesha Raza Mishra. The show is scheduled to make its global debut on December 12, exclusively on Netflix.

From CID to Cop Universe and Beyond

Dayanand Shetty remains one of Indian television's most recognizable faces thanks to his long-running stint on 'CID'. On the big screen, he was recently seen in Rohit Shetty's blockbuster 'Singham Again', which boasts a star-studded lineup of Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar. His role in 'Single Papa' signifies an exciting new chapter, showcasing his versatility as an actor willing to break the mold and embrace characters that defy stereotypes.

With its focus on modern family dynamics and gender roles, 'Single Papa' is poised to offer both entertainment and a meaningful message when it streams next month.
