Tu Juliet Jatt Di: A Fresh Take on Romance with Marriage Before Love
Tu Juliet Jatt Di: A New-Age Romance on COLORS

The landscape of television romance is set for a dramatic upheaval with the arrival of 'Tu Juliet Jatt Di', a fiery and contemporary love story that dares to flip the classic narrative on its head. This isn't your typical boy-meets-girl tale; here, marriage happens first, college life follows, and love is a complicated emotion that blossoms later, if at all.

A Story of Opposites and a Majboori Ki Shaadi

Set against the vibrant and youthful backdrop of Chandigarh Prime University, the show charts the tumultuous journey of two polar opposites. Nawab, portrayed by Syed Raza Ahmed, is a carefree Jatt who lives by impulse, embracing spontaneity over structure. His world collides with that of Heer, played by Jasmeet Kaur, a fiercely focused and ambitious young woman determined to build a secure future for her family. He is untamed; she is grounded and disciplined.

Despite their vastly different worlds, fate has a unique plan for them. A 'majboori ki shaadi' (marriage of compulsion) binds Nawab and Heer together even before they step foot into their campus life, setting the stage for a story filled with emotional conflict, youthful chaos, and unexpected sparks.

Sangita Ghosh on Embodying the Complex Mother, Gulaab

Standing at the emotional core of this whirlwind is Gulaab, a mother whose intense love for her son is both her greatest strength and her most tragic flaw. Veteran actress Sangita Ghosh, who brings this layered character to life, shared her insights on what makes the show and her role so special.

When asked about what attracted her to 'Tu Juliet Jatt Di', Sangita highlighted the show's raw and real feel. "The premise of two young people being pushed into marriage before they are ready for college sets the story on a very interesting track from the very first episode," she explained. "The family dynamics look very familiar, and Gulaab fits naturally into this. She has run her home in her own way for years, so sudden changes bother her. Her truthfulness makes the story feel grounded."

Connecting to Gulaab's Motherhood

For Sangita, the connection to Gulaab was deeply personal. "What drew me to Gulaab was how real her emotions felt. I am a mother myself, so I understand how love can make you protective without even realising it," she revealed. While she has played strong women before, Gulaab's strength is uniquely rooted in her motherhood. In a show exploring modern love, Gulaab represents the other side—a parent whose intense love can sometimes feel controlling.

"She reacts quickly and she holds on tightly. Her biggest strengths and her biggest mistakes both come from the same place, which is her love for her child," Sangita added, emphasizing the character's complexity.

Clash of Generations: Love, Freedom, and Control

The show expertly explores the universal themes of love, freedom, and family expectations through multiple lenses. Gulaab's perspective is particularly layered because her love has a dark side. She adores her son Nawab, but that adoration can transform into overpowering control.

"She wants every part of Nawab's life under her watch, not out of cruelty but because she truly believes she knows what is best for him," Sangita elaborated. "For her generation, holding on tightly felt like keeping your family safe. Today's youth see love as space and freedom, and that is where Gulaab's world clashes with Nawab's."

Gulaab thus becomes an emotional symbol of the immense difficulty parents face in letting go, especially when their own identity is deeply intertwined with their child's life. Sangita notes that her character is "not fully right or wrong", but simply a mother coming to terms with the fact that love in the modern era looks vastly different from the love she knew.

A Positive On-Set Experience and a Familiar Shooting Location

Speaking about her co-stars, Sangita had nothing but praise for Syed Raza Ahmed and Jasmeet Kaur. "Working with Syed and Jasmeet has been genuinely refreshing. They're both very easy to be around and genuinely good people," she shared. She admired their clarity, preparedness, and the perfect balance they strike between having fun between shots and switching on with sincerity when the camera rolls.

The show is filmed in Chandigarh, a city familiar to Sangita from her previous show, Swaran Ghar. "There's something very steady and comforting about this city, and that helps you settle into a character without feeling the chaos of an outdoor schedule," she said. While being away from her daughter is tough, she confessed that very emotion provided the groundwork for understanding Gulaab's protective nature.

A Celebrated Return to COLORS

With 'Tu Juliet Jatt Di', Sangita Ghosh makes a heartfelt return to COLORS, a channel that holds a special place in her journey. "Coming back to the channel genuinely feels like returning to a place that has always had a soft corner in my heart," she expressed. "With COLORS, I've always felt understood, valued, and creatively trusted. They give you room to explore, to take risks, and to find new shades in yourself. That kind of faith is rare."

Her final message to the viewers is one of excitement. "It's been so much fun watching the show find its rhythm on screen. The story is opening up in an exciting way with each episode. Gulaab's energy also gets more interesting, and playing those shifts has been a joy. We're genuinely enjoying this journey, and it's lovely to feel the audience coming along with us."

'Tu Juliet Jatt Di' promises to be a compelling watch, offering a fresh perspective on relationships, the weight of family, and the unpredictable journey of finding love in the most unexpected of circumstances.
