After days of maintaining silence amidst a brewing controversy, television actress Shubhangi Atre has finally shared her perspective. The discussion was sparked by comments from fellow actor Shilpa Shinde regarding the challenges of comedy and character portrayal.
On the Art of Comedy and Character
Addressing the core issue, Shubhangi Atre agreed that comedy is an extremely demanding genre. She emphasized the unique difficulty of playing the same character, Angoori, continuously for a decade. "There is always a certain demand from a character and its specific traits," she stated.
She summed up her philosophy with a Hindi adage: "Kirdar kalaakar se bada hota hai." (The character is bigger than the artist). She explained that on Indian television, replacements are common, and every new actor must adhere to the pre-defined framework and traits of an established character.
Reflecting on her ten-year tenure, she asserted that she fulfilled her responsibilities towards Angoori with complete honesty, dedication, and sincerity, always staying true to the character's essence.
No Contact from the Bhabiji Team
When asked if anyone from the Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain team reached out to her after the controversy became public, her response was clear. "No one from the cast called me, but that's fine," she revealed.
Despite the lack of communication, she extended her best wishes to the team for Bhabhiji 2.0. She fondly recalled her time on the show, stating that the cast and crew were like an extended family to her during her association with the popular sitcom.
Gratitude and Looking Ahead
Shubhangi expressed deep gratitude for the support she received from her audience and colleagues during this time. "I want to thank my audience and colleagues who sent me personal messages," she said, adding a heartfelt promise: "I will keep working hard, and I will continue entertaining my audience till my last breath."
In a previous conversation, the actress had spoken about her desire to move beyond the iconic image of Angoori. She credited social media for helping audiences see the real Shubhangi beyond the character. "This next phase is about growing beyond Angoori and discovering myself again as an actor," she had remarked, expressing hope for continued audience support in her future ventures.
