Shruti Ulfat Lends Her Voice to Anupamaa for a Special Emotional Sequence
Actress Shruti Ulfat, known for her role in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, recently contributed her vocal talents to a poignant sequence in the popular television show Anupamaa. She provided a voiceover for a beautiful poem that played over a montage depicting various characters experiencing emotional turmoil and personal struggles.
The Voiceover Process and Creative Collaboration
Shruti received a call from producer Rajan Shahi requesting her to perform the voiceover. She was then briefed by Indro, the creative head of Anupamaa, who explained the requirement. The poem was designed to accompany a montage where each character faces setbacks such as loss, guilt, and sadness, reflecting their individual journeys.
Indro asked Shruti to infuse the narration with pathos, pauses, and emotional intensity. Appreciating the creative freedom, she was told she could take her time and not adhere strictly to timing constraints. Shruti recorded multiple variations of the poem and sent them for review.
Rajan Shahi responded enthusiastically, sending her a message expressing his admiration. He said, "Shruti, I just loved it. It was too, too, too beautiful." He added that the emotional depth in her voice moved him to tears, highlighting her skill in voice modulation and tonality.
Long-Standing Association with Rajan Shahi and Rupali Ganguly
Shruti has a deep connection with Rajan Shahi and actress Rupali Ganguly, dating back to their work together on Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahi in 1997. She reflects on this nearly three-decade-long association, noting how it feels special to collaborate again. In that early project, they were part of a love triangle involving Vishal Singh.
Today, Rupali stars as Anupamaa in Rajan's show, and Shruti's voiceover allowed her to be part of it indirectly. She attributes this opportunity to her comfort with Hindi and clear diction, as well as her theatre background, which honed her ability to convey emotions through speech.
After watching the episode, Shruti experienced goosebumps. The voiceover appears in the final segment, summarizing the characters' past journeys and hinting at future challenges. She describes the reunion with Rajan and Rupali as a heartwarming and memorable experience.
Praise for Rajan Shahi's Storytelling and Production Values
Shruti speaks highly of Rajan Shahi, calling him a master storyteller who understands audience emotions. She notes his meticulous approach to productions, evident in successful shows like Sapna Babul Ka… Bidaai, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Anupamaa, and Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si.
Following her earlier work in Dil Ek Mandir, Shruti was occupied with other projects until her show ended about two and a half years ago. Just three days later, she received an offer from Director’s Kut Productions (DKP), which she accepted immediately. She praises DKP as a supportive and family-like environment, emphasizing Rajan's care for his team.
Current Role in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Personal Fulfillment
In Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Shruti plays the character Vidya, which she describes as multifaceted and versatile. She enjoys portraying the various shades and emotions that Vidya embodies, finding great satisfaction in her role despite any perceptions about daily soaps.
When questioned about her happiness in working on a daily soap, Shruti affirms her contentment, stating she is very happy doing it. This role allows her to showcase her acting range and connect with audiences through compelling storytelling.
