Poonam Preet Makes Television Comeback After Eight-Year Hiatus

Following the recent news of Gulki Joshi's return to television after three years with Hui Gumm Yaadein: Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan, another significant comeback has emerged in the Indian television industry. Actress Poonam Preet, last seen in the popular show Naamkarann, is set to make her television return after an eight-year absence, joining the cast of the same series.

Portraying a Complex Character: Ishita Mehta

In an exclusive interview, Poonam Preet opened up about her character in the show. "I play Ishita Mehta, Dr Dev's sister, a role originally portrayed by Iqbal Khan," she explained. "She's emotionally driven and deeply attached to her husband, which often puts her in conflict between her marriage and her own family. Ishita isn't negative. She's layered, vulnerable and very human. That grey space is what makes her interesting to portray."

Not Just a Comeback: A Journey of Personal Growth

For Poonam Preet, this return doesn't feel like a conventional comeback. "For me, it's not really a comeback. I was always around, just consciously taking time to work on myself as a person and as an actor," she revealed. "Sometimes stepping back helps you grow internally, observe life more closely and return with more depth."

The actress shared that her extended break was shaped by personal priorities and challenges. "I went through some health challenges during this phase, so I chose to prioritise my well-being and preparation. I was waiting for a role that truly excites me, and when this came along, it felt right to take it up," she said. "I believe growth never stops. Even now, I'm working towards becoming my fittest and best version, both physically and creatively."

Lessons Learned During the Break

Reflecting on what the eight-year pause taught her, the actress, who previously appeared in a cameo role in Ufff Yeh Siyapaa, added valuable insights. "The break taught me patience and perspective. I understood myself better, and that naturally deepens your craft," she stated. "Today, I'm more grounded, more aware and creatively stronger than before."
