KBC 17: Mother-Daughter Duo Wins Rs 7.5 Lakh

The latest 'Parivaar Ka Tyohar' special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 brought a wave of emotion, laughter, and inspiration as the mother-daughter duo of Pooja Popat and Bharati Popat from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, took the hot seat. Hosted by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, the episode was a beautiful blend of a quiz challenge and a heartfelt family narrative.

An Emotional Journey and a Father's Dream

After a warm welcome from Big B, Pooja and Bharati began their quest. They successfully answered the first question for Rs 3,00,000, correctly identifying Bhilai as the place former Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev called the 'Magnitogorsk of India'. Their winning streak continued, and upon securing Rs 5,00,000, they shared a deeply personal story.

Pooja revealed that her father had passed away after a battle with cancer. Following his diagnosis in 2017, the family dedicated the next six to seven years to his care. It was her father's dream to expand their family restaurant business. The mother and daughter declared that they plan to invest their prize money to take the business forward and honour his legacy, turning their KBC win into a tribute.

Laughter, Halwa, and Bargaining Tales

The episode was not just about serious questions. When the duo won a year's supply of free ghee, Pooja mentioned her mother makes delicious suji ka halwa. An amused Amitabh Bachchan expressed his love for the dish and jokingly wondered how he could get a taste. Bharati promptly promised to deliver it to his home. When Bachchan politely declined, saying she shouldn't trouble herself, Bharati wittily replied, "Nahi nahi, main aa jaungi, bas aap andar aane dijiyega (No, no, I will come, you just have to let me in)." Her comment left the entire studio in splits.

The conversation then turned to shopping habits. Pooja shared her mother's habit of bargaining even at malls, to which Big B said it wasn't a bad habit at all. He humorously narrated the typical husband's plight during shopping trips, waiting patiently on a couch just to pay the bill. When Bharati spoke about the troubles of her daughter's online shopping, Bachchan admitted he still doesn't understand how it works and quipped that men lack the bargaining instinct.

As all the men in the studio agreed, Bharati jokingly reminded them they had to go back home, leaving Big B amused. The megastar concluded with a laugh, "I am 83 years old now, and I have learned one thing in life—you can never win an argument with women. The best thing to do is fold your hands and say, 'Theek hai'."

The Final Stretch and a Fortunate Guess

Continuing their game, the pair correctly answered the Rs 7,50,000 question on freedom fighter Chittaranjan Das, founder of the newspaper 'Forward' (later 'Liberty'), using the 'Audience Poll' lifeline. They then bravely faced the Rs 12,50,000 question: "In which US national park is Hyperion, the world's tallest living tree, located?"

They used their revived '50-50' lifeline, but it offered no clear hint. Choosing to quit the game at this point, they took a guess on their way out and selected Option C) Redwood National Park. To their delight and Bachchan's surprise, their guess was correct. However, as per the rules, they walked away with the amount they had secured before the question: Rs 7,50,000.

The episode of KBC 17's Parivaar Ka Tyohar perfectly captured the essence of family—its shared dreams, its inside jokes, and its unbreakable bond, all under the bright lights of India's most beloved quiz show.
