Harleen Kaur Reikhi Advocates for Balanced Content Creation in Volatile TV Industry
Actress Harleen Kaur Reikhi, known for her roles in television shows like Binddii and Kaamdhenu Gaumata, has shared her insights on the ever-changing landscape of the entertainment industry. She emphasizes that while volatility and unpredictability are inherent to this field, creators must adapt to current trends without losing sight of meaningful storytelling.
Navigating Trends While Preserving Roots
Reikhi believes that understanding audience preferences is crucial in today's dynamic market. "The industry has always been volatile, and I think unpredictability is part of its nature," she stated. "With changing trends, we also need to understand what the audience is enjoying at a particular time." She pointed out that Gen Z-driven content is currently thriving, yet there is also a resurgence of interest in spiritual, traditional, and mythological narratives.
"I feel it's important to move with the trend but not lose our roots," Reikhi added. She insists that artists and producers should aim to introduce innovative content that fosters industry growth while maintaining authenticity. "Something that helps the industry grow—while staying true to meaningful storytelling. Content shouldn't just chase numbers; it should leave an impact. That balance is what will keep the industry evolving in a healthy way."
Critique of Follower-Driven Casting and Professionalism Issues
Reikhi identified a significant concern in the industry: the growing emphasis on social media followers over acting talent. "I'm not against influencers—they work hard too—but casting should be content-driven, not follower-driven," she asserted. "If someone is being cast purely for their social media reach, then don't label it as an acting opportunity." She expressed worry that many skilled actors who are not tech-savvy or inclined toward creating reels are being marginalized due to this trend.
Another issue she highlighted is the lack of mutual respect and professionalism. "Actors are often expected to be available at all times, even when shoot dates keep getting postponed," Reikhi explained. "If an actor expresses discomfort or unavailability, they are sometimes quietly blacklisted. I've seen talented friends being ignored simply because they took a stand." She advocates for a more stable environment where responsibility and respect are reciprocal.
Aspirations for Future Roles and Content Preferences
When asked about her career aspirations, Reikhi revealed a strong desire to explore specific genres. "I would really love to be part of a thriller or action film or series. Playing a spy on screen is something I deeply aspire to—it excites me because such roles demand both physical and emotional depth," she shared. Additionally, she hopes to showcase classical dance, particularly Kathak, in her performances.
Reikhi also dreams of collaborating with acclaimed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, calling it "a dream come true." In terms of personal viewing habits, she enjoys both Hindi and English content, favoring action, thrillers, and spy-based stories that stimulate the mind. "I'm not a hardcore binge-watcher, but whenever I get time, I like to watch action, thrillers, and spy-based content—stories that engage the mind and make you think," she concluded.
