The much-hyped return of Shilpa Shinde to the popular sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain 2.0 has hit a sour note. The actress, who is set to reprise her iconic role of Angoori Bhabhi after nearly a decade, is facing significant backlash for her recent comments about her successor, Shubhangi Atre. The controversy has now drawn a sharp reaction from fellow television actress Falaq Naaz, who has publicly criticized Shinde's stance.
Falaq Naaz's Strong Social Media Rebuke
Following actor Sourabh Raj Jain's criticism, Bigg Boss OTT fame Falaq Naaz has become the latest celebrity to voice her disapproval. Falaq took to her Instagram Story to share a clip of Shilpa Shinde's interview and penned a lengthy note condemning her remarks. She openly challenged Shinde's 'no comparison' statement regarding Shubhangi Atre's portrayal of Angoori Bhabhi.
Falaq emphasized that Shubhangi Atre took over the role with grace and dedication after Shinde's departure. "The role you once played was later taken forward gracefully by Shubhangi, who portrayed the character with honesty and dedication," she stated. Highlighting the continuity Shubhangi provided, Falaq pointedly wrote, "Aap to chali gayin thi Tata bye bye karke show ko" (You left the show saying Tata bye bye).
The Core of the Controversy: Shilpa's 'No Comparison' Comment
The dispute originated from an interview Shilpa Shinde gave to IANS. When asked about comparisons with Shubhangi Atre, who played Angoori Bhabhi from 2016 onwards, Shinde dismissively said, "Mujhe isme koi comparison nahi dikhti" (I see no comparison here). She firmly added, "Bhabhiji Shilpa Shinde hi thi, always", asserting her sole ownership of the character's legacy.
This statement was perceived by many, including Falaq Naaz, as disrespectful to Shubhangi Atre's contribution. Falaq urged Shilpa to show "some appreciation and respect" for the work Shubhangi did, noting she performed a "wonderful job" as an actor.
A Lesson in Grace and Legacy
Falaq Naaz presented a contrasting view of how such a transition should be acknowledged. She expressed that if she were in Shilpa's position, she would have been grateful. "If I were in your place, I would have thanked her for keeping my character alive all these years and returning it to me without any drama, unlike you," Falaq wrote.
She concluded her critique by stating that Shilpa's remark did not reflect confidence but came across as discourteous. "You're not being overly confident- you're being rude. Very sad," Falaq lashed out, describing the entire situation as deeply unfortunate.
Shilpa Shinde originally quit Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain in 2016 due to reported differences with the show's makers. Her comeback to the revamped version, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain 2.0, was announced recently and has been a major talking point, though now overshadowed by this burgeoning controversy.
