In a significant move to modernize India's public broadcasting landscape, Prasar Bharati officially launched the 'Creator's Corner' on DD News this Friday. This initiative heralds the beginning of what the government describes as a year of transformative reforms planned for 2026, aimed at reorienting the national broadcaster towards greater industry collaboration and technological integration.
A New Chapter for Public Broadcasting
Unveiling the new platform, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw declared that 2026 would witness "major reforms" for Prasar Bharati. The overhaul will focus on reshaping both Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR) to actively engage with industry partners, new-generation content creators, and technology-driven production processes. "Creator's Corner is the first step in this reform journey," Vaishnaw stated, connecting this launch to the government's broader mission to revitalize public media.
Empowering the Creator Economy and Grassroots Talent
The minister highlighted the success of the WAVES platform, launched last year, calling it a "game changer" for the creator economy. He emphasized its potential to empower one crore youth, generate fresh employment opportunities, and stimulate economic activity worth nearly Rs 5,000 crore.
Echoing this vision, Minister of State for I&B L Murugan said the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on nurturing the "orange economy." He pointed out that creators from smaller towns are already independently producing, editing, and distributing high-quality content without the need for large studios or institutional support. Public broadcasting, he noted, can now serve as a crucial bridge connecting this grassroots talent with nationwide audiences.
Building an Inclusive Ecosystem
I&B Secretary Sanjay Jaju added that the Creator's Corner is designed to foster a responsible and inclusive content ecosystem. The program is set for a phased expansion across various Doordarshan channels, embracing multiple languages, genres, and formats to ensure wide reach and diversity.
Officials confirmed the operational details: the show will air every weekday at 7 PM, from Monday to Friday. Each episode will showcase four to six creator-made videos, spanning a wide array of interests including news, culture, science, education, and entertainment. A repeat telecast of each episode will be broadcast the following morning, maximizing viewership.
This strategic launch positions Prasar Bharati at the forefront of India's evolving digital content revolution, directly tapping into the vibrant creator community while setting the stage for comprehensive institutional reforms in the coming years.
