Riteish Deshmukh's highly anticipated historical drama 'Raja Shivaji' has completed its censor formalities ahead of its theatrical release on May 1. The Marathi version of the film has a runtime of 195 minutes and 5 seconds, which translates to 3 hours, 15 minutes, and 5 seconds.
CBFC Grants U/A 16+ Certificate
The Central Board of Film Certification cleared the film with a U/A 16+ certificate on April 24. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC's Examining Committee requested several modifications before granting the certificate. The makers were asked to revise the disclaimer with clearer and stronger wording, accompanied by a voiceover.
Additional Requirements from CBFC
The filmmakers also had to add a clarification for choosing the title 'Raja Shivaji'. They were required to submit documents for all historical references used in the film. The CBFC further demanded a proper script matching the film's dialogues and songs. Additionally, the board instructed the team to include specific dates for all major events depicted and insert text slates for historical events.
Minor Cuts and Modifications
The film faced only two minor cuts. A visual showing a small boy's throat being slit had to be replaced with an appropriate shot. The makers were also asked to add audio for muted visuals.
Joining the League of Long Indian Films
With a runtime of 195 minutes, 'Raja Shivaji' becomes part of a growing list of Indian films that exceed the three-hour mark. Other notable long films include 'Animal' (203 minutes), 'Pushpa 2 – The Rule' (200 minutes), 'Dhurandhar' (214 minutes), 'Dhurandhar The Revenge' (229 minutes), and 'Border 2' (199 minutes).

'Raja Shivaji' stars Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The ensemble cast includes Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Bhagyashree, Sachin Khedekar, Amole Gupte, and Jitendra Joshi. The film is produced by Riteish and Genelia's Mumbai Film Company in collaboration with Jyoti Deshpande's Jio Studios.
