Prem on KD: A Simple Story with Larger-Than-Life Scale and Visuals
Prem on KD: Simple Story, Larger-Than-Life Scale

Director Prem, known for his decades-long career in cinema, is set to release his latest film KD: The Devil today. Starring Dhruva Sarja and Reeshma Nanaiah, the film is produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions. Prem describes it as a blend of scale and simplicity, aiming to bring a rooted story to the screen on a larger-than-life canvas.

A Fresh Approach to Filmmaking

Despite nearly 30 years of directing, Prem approaches each project with the same sense of newness. When asked how this film differs from his previous works, he says, “I cannot say, because I never compare my work. Every film is like my first film.” This philosophy underscores his commitment to treating each story uniquely.

The Story and Setting

Set in the 1970s and inspired by real events, KD: The Devil aims to elevate a common man’s story through cinematic spectacle. Prem explains, “I wanted to have the scale, hard work and tech that goes into making mythological films these days, but for a common man’s story. The story is simple, but the scale and visuals are larger than life.” This juxtaposition of simplicity and grandeur is central to the film’s appeal.

Stellar Ensemble Cast

The film features a notable ensemble including Sudeep, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, Ravichandran, and Ramesh Aravind. Prem clarifies that these appearances are integral to the narrative, not mere cameos. “Dhruva Sarja had been wanting to do a film with me for a long time, and I wanted to get the right script for him. KD was apt. The film does not have big stars for the sake of having star cameos. Their characters add weight and value to the film,” he says.

Audience Verdict

Staying true to his philosophy, Prem leaves the final judgment to the audience. “I never tell my audiences to watch a film for a particular reason… All I can say is that it's pure entertainment, and the audiences can decide why this film must be watched,” he concludes. With its blend of a simple story and epic scale, KD: The Devil promises to be a unique cinematic experience.
