Director Pandiraaj is all set for the release of his upcoming Tamil film 'Parimala & Co', featuring Jayaram and Urvashi in leading roles. During a recent media interaction, the filmmaker revealed that the story was conceived during the lockdown period, stemming from a challenge posed by one of his assistant directors.
Story Born Out of a Challenge
According to a report by IANS, Pandiraaj said his assistant director, Ashwin, who later directed the successful film 'Couple Friendly', suggested a web series on an OTT platform and asked him to watch it. After viewing the series, Pandiraaj felt confident that he could write a similar kind of story within a week. Ashwin then challenged him to do so, and the director accepted the challenge.
"I watched it and told him that I could write stories like the one he had suggested in a week's time. He said, 'Do it.' I accepted his challenge and did this story," Pandiraaj said.
Scripting Process of 'Parimala & Co'
Pandiraaj explained that he completed the story after taking up the challenge. As the writing process continued, more situations were added to the script. The team also began improving and expanding the story. The director noted that they later decided to develop it into a dark comedy. This idea gave the script a distinct flavor and helped shape the film into something more unique. Once the script was finalized, Pandiraaj set it aside for some time without immediate plans to turn it into a film.
"After completing it, I kept it aside. That was the time director Jagan and my assistant Divya came. They saw this script and said the writing in this was fantastic and wanted me to do this script as a film first," he shared.
Their positive reaction gave Pandiraaj the confidence to move forward with the project. The film eventually evolved into what is now 'Parimala & Co', marking the director's 12th film.
