The production team behind the upcoming historical epic 'Draupathi 2' has made a definitive decision regarding one of its songs. They have officially announced that the track 'Emkoney' will not feature the original vocals of popular singer Chinmayi in the theatrical release. Instead, a new singer has been brought on board to record the song.
Official Confirmation Ends Speculation
Director Mohan G Kshatriyan and producer Chola Sakkaravarthi have jointly clarified the situation, putting an end to ongoing confusion. They stated that only the newly recorded version will be included in the final film print. In a straightforward statement reported by IANS, producer Chola Shakkaravarthi said, "The song will appear in this other person's voice in the film."
This decision came after a public apology posted by Chinmayi on her social media accounts. Following her recording session, the singer expressed regret, explaining she was unaware of the film's context when she lent her voice. "At the outset, my heartfelt apologies for 'Emkoney'," she wrote. She detailed that composer Ghibran, whom she has known for 18 years, had called her for the song. She performed the recording as usual, but later discovered the film's ideological stance was in complete contradiction to her own. "If I had known beforehand, I would never have collaborated," she asserted.
Director's Disappointment Leads to Change
In response to Chinmayi's public statement, director Mohan G Kshatriyan expressed his disappointment. He indicated that he waited for a response but eventually filed a complaint, feeling the film was being spoken about negatively without justification. Following this development, the production chose to move forward with an alternate singer for the track.
About the Historical Epic 'Draupathi 2'
'Draupathi 2' is a grand historical drama set in 14th-century South India. Director Mohan G Kshatriyan revealed that the narrative draws inspiration from a lesser-known history book titled 'Moondram Vallalla Maharaja'. While the key events depicted are based on real historical facts, the characters have been shaped with a degree of cinematic freedom.
The film features Richard Rishi in the lead role, with Rakshana Indusudan as the female lead. Natti Natraj plays a significant part, and Chirag Jani portrays the powerful antagonist Mohammad Bin Tughlaq. The story is set to include three strong antagonists in total.
The project has recently completed its post-production phase and has secured a U/A certificate from the censor board, paving the way for its theatrical release.
