Director Raghav Jairath Reveals Future of 'Taskaree' Depends on Fan Love
Taskaree Season 2 Hinges on Audience Response, Says Director

Netflix's 'Taskaree' Director Opens Up About Season 2 Possibilities

Netflix's new crime drama 'Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web' has started streaming, and director Raghav Jairath is already fielding questions about its future. The series, which premiered on January 14, 2026, offers a complete seven-episode arc but leaves room for continuation.

Audience Response Will Decide Season 2

In an exclusive interview, Jairath explained the team's philosophy about endings. "We believe in giving every show proper closure," he stated clearly. "So there will be a proper ending for this series."

However, he acknowledged that audience reaction could change everything. "If the audience pours in love and wants to see more, we would love to extend it." Jairath pointed to their earlier series 'Special Ops' as an example where viewer support led to narrative expansion.

Emraan Hashmi's Instant Commitment

Casting Emraan Hashmi happened almost automatically according to Jairath. "When we were casting, it automatically aligned when his name came up," he shared. "The writers already felt he was right for the role."

Hashmi agreed to the project with remarkable speed. "It was a mere two-and-a-half-minute narration, and he said, 'Let's do it.'" Jairath described Hashmi's character as "very intriguing and complex" with "shades of grey."

The director praised Hashmi's preparation methods. The actor spent time observing customs officials to capture authentic behavior. "He started catching these little nuances of what he could add to his character," Jairath explained.

Sharad Kelkar's Powerful Presence

Discussing Sharad Kelkar's portrayal of Bada Chaudhary, Jairath highlighted the character's careful construction. "Sharad has a powerful presence. He's quiet. Even if he doesn't say something, his presence has something that pulls you toward him."

The series emphasizes psychological tension over spectacle according to the director. "It's a mind game. It's a constant cat-and-mouse mind game."

Supporting Cast and Authentic Research

Jairath also mentioned standout performances from Prakash Kumar, Amrita Khalvikar, and Nandish Sandhu. Extensive research with customs and AIU officers informed the storytelling significantly.

"They know everything that's in your bag," Jairath noted about the real-world insights that grounded the series. These details helped create authentic scenarios throughout the show.

The series was created by Neeraj Pandey and represents a complete first-season story. Whether it continues depends entirely on how viewers respond to this initial offering.
